Rediscovering the Armenian Museum of America Through Art

In 2017, I first visited the Armenian Museum of America in Watertown, Massachusetts, and was deeply moved by the richness of its collections and the stories they tell. Little did I know that years later, I would have the incredible opportunity to contribute to this cultural treasure in a very personal way.

Recently, I was commissioned by the Armenian Museum to create a watercolor painting of its exterior. This project allowed me to reconnect with the museum in a creative manner. As I sat in my studio, brush in hand, I was transported back to my initial visit, recalling the impact of its exhibits and the vibrant Armenian heritage it preserves. The process of painting the museum’s exterior was not just about capturing its physical appearance, but also about conveying the warmth and significance it holds within the community. It stands as a beacon of Armenian culture and history, a place where the past and present converge in a tapestry of stories, artifacts, and art.

I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the Armenian Museum of America and hope that my painting serves as a visual gateway, inviting others to explore and appreciate the wealth of history and culture housed within its walls. This experience has reinforced my connection to the museum and my commitment to celebrating and preserving our shared culture through art. I am also excited to share that the museum’s gift shop now offers my branded collection of merchandise highlighting Armenian culture.

I encourage everyone to visit the Armenian Museum of America, nestled in the heart of Massachusetts in Watertown. This historical museum is a cornerstone of cultural preservation, offering an extensive array of exhibits that celebrate Armenian art, history, and heritage. It houses the most extensive and diverse collection of Armenian cultural artifacts outside of Armenia itself. With over 25,000 items in its holdings, highlights include 5,000 ancient and medieval Armenian coins, over 3,000 textiles including 180 inscribed Armenian rugs, as well as a rich assortment of Urartian artifacts, religious items, ceramics, medieval illuminations, and numerous other valuable pieces. From ancient artifacts to contemporary artworks, the museum’s collections provide a comprehensive narrative of the Armenian experience across centuries.

The museum’s commitment to historical preservation and creative contributions makes it a vital resource for anyone interested in understanding the depth and breadth of Armenian culture. By visiting, you not only support the museum’s mission but also immerse yourself in a vibrant cultural legacy that continues to inspire and educate. Whether you are an art enthusiast, a history buff, or simply curious about Armenian heritage, the Armenian Museum of America offers an enriching experience that is both educational and inspiring.
