I was very intentional with my goals for 2024. At the top of the list was improving my painting skills and leveling up my fine art business. After extensive research, I registered for a year-long, online program with the incredible Milan Art Institute in Florida called The Mastery Program. I can tell you that my experience so far has been nothing short of transformative. Every lesson, every video, every nugget of information has pushed me to explore new techniques, has led me to new dimensions of creativity and reconnected me with my artistic foundational roots.
One of the most influential aspects of this course is the exceptional teaching style of the founder, Elli Milan. Elli’s approach is not just about imparting technical skills but also about encouraging a deep, introspective journey of learning and unlearning habits that no longer serve me. Elli’s emphasis on understanding the core principles of art while simultaneously challenging preconceived notions is allowing me to grow as an artist in ways I never imagined. She has a unique gift and method for guiding students to discover their authentic artistic voice, making the learning process both profound and enjoyable.
At the start of the program, I revisited the basics, breaking down old habits, and rebuilding my artistic foundation with a fresh perspective. This process of touching base with my roots was incredibly enriching. It reminded me of why I fell in love with art in the first place, boosted my self confidence and reignited my passion for creative expression.
The impact of this art education goes beyond the technical skills I acquired. It has reshaped my mindset and is guiding me in figuring out my process of how to approach a blank canvas. I am developing auto-pilot tools with a set menu of techniques to start a painting so I don’t have any excuse of not feeling inspired. I just follow my recipe and my intuition takes over. This has been the biggest AHA moment! It’s like doing stretches before a workout. This journey has been about more than just improving my craft; it has been about evolving as an artist and as an individual.
Come September, I am excited to continue this journey by attending the Milan Institute’s Painting Retreat in Central Italy! This retreat promises to be another incredible opportunity for growth, allowing me to immerse myself in an environment dedicated to artistic exploration and learning. It will also be a masterclass on building a lucrative art business taught by the masters themselves, Elli and her beautiful daughter Dimitra. I look forward to connecting with fellow artists, sharing experiences, and further honing my skills in a supportive and inspiring setting. Most importantly, I want to give Elli and Dimitra a big hug and thank them personally for sharing their invaluable knowledge.
