Shant means lightning in Armenian. The background is inspired by the patterning of 13th-century Armenian khachkars (elaborate crosses carved in stone: a very identifiable form of Armenian art). It features crosses as well as the iconic Armenian eternity symbol, known as Arevakhach, or Sun Cross.
