I am thrilled (and a bit nervous) to share with you one of a series of oil paintings I’m creating for my solo exhibit to be scheduled end of 2022, which will be revolving around the Armenian American experience.
The composition of this piece is a re-creation of Norman Rockwell’s Thanksgiving illustration, titled “Freedom From Want”.
This painting will be a representation of an Armenian family who has immigrated to the US and is having Thanksgiving dinner. It will highlight the combination of the traditional and non-traditional dishes that are served in an Armenian-American Thanksgiving staged within the nuances of a typical Armenian home.
Not only will it be a representation of my story but also of others in the Armenian community that have experienced their own immigration journey.
The Solo Exhibit has been a dream of mine for many years and to see it possibly realized brings forth so many emotions and aspirations for how far I’ve come as a person, a daughter of Armenia, and an artist. My hopes are to hold the exhibit the week of August 25th, 2022- the second anniversary of my cancer surgery. This display will represent all I have experienced, achieved and most importantly conquered which furthers my motivation to curatively paint the first half of my life in colors and artistic style that are unique to me and my heritage.
I see this exhibit as an amazing opportunity to share my joy through my art with all those who view it. It is my greatest hope and deepest wish that patrons come away from the experience with a new understanding and appreciation of the Armenian culture that means so much to me and feel inspired to explore and celebrate their own heritage.
Stay tuned as I continue to share insights about the exhibit and the process in some of my artwork that will be displayed!
