Meet Arpi
Born in Beirut and based in California, Armenian-American contemporary artist Arpi Krikorian explores memory, identity, resilience and reinvention through intuitive painting.
Creativity, storytelling, family, and a deep love of color have shaped my life and work.
I earned my bachelor’s degree in Illustration from ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena, where I developed the artistic foundation that would later guide my career in animation, illustration, and fine art.
After working as a staff artist at Nickelodeon Animation Studios, I made a promise to myself that moving forward, I would create only work that came from the heart. That commitment eventually led me to build a product collection that was sold around the world for 13 years and featured in the shop accompanying the "Armenia!" exhibition at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
After facing rectal cancer during the pandemic in 2020, I felt called back to fine art and intuitive abstract painting. Painting became a way for me to explore how the mind processes, visualizes, and translates emotions and stories.
Although abstract in form, my paintings are deeply personal. They are never planned, yet they often bring emotional landscapes and hidden stories to the surface. My work explores memory, transformation, identity, and the universal threads that connect us across time, place, and experience.

I’m also a filmmaker and publisher
My love of storytelling extends beyond the canvas. Through film and publishing, I am helping create meaningful stories that preserve language, honor history, and connect generations.

I founded Arpi Publishing, a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating original Western Armenian books for children and young adults.

My film work includes The Red Scarf: A Story of Armenian Hope, an animated short for which I served as executive producer, designer, and art director.

I was also an illustrator for the interactive graphic novel, The Red Scarf: A Story of Armenian Hope - a companion to the animated film.
